eBay Scam

eBay scams and eBay identity theft scams have become a big hit for online thieves lately. In an online world dominated by tons of scams in various arenas, including identity theft scams, email scams, credit card fraud and identity theft, eBay scams seem to be getting a good portion of the buzz lately.

Online scammers are using the new eBay scams to get personal information and get new fraud victims through the online auction. One such example lies in conducting a simple search on the site for the popular iPod.

While thousands of listings may come up, scammers have entered hundreds of them as solicitations for pyramid schemes, or matrix scams, as the Internet world has learned to call them.

The way a matrix pyramid ebay scam works, is for example, when a person clicks on the seller's iPod solicitation he is offered the item at a hugely discounted price or sometimes even free.

But in order to get the huge discount the ebay scam encourages the buyer to go to a different site instead of actually bidding on the product. When the buyer goes to the site, he or she is solicited to purchase other items in order to get the iPod for free.

The eBay scam does not, however, tell the buyer that in order to get the iPod, their name is put into a pyramid list, and until the buyer finds other buyers to add to the list, subsequently allowing his or her name to get to the top of the pyramid, there is no free iPod.

Another huge problem is once they get your personal information they can use that information for credit card fraud. These eBay identity theft scams can quickly turn into a nightmare.

In many instances with these eBay scams, the products purchased, which tend to be books, CDs and the like, are never sent to the buyer. So be careful and be aware of these eBay scams that are taking on this pyramid-like look.
